What if I did not raise the $150 fundraising minimum by the day of the event?

We encourage all participants to raise or contribute $150 via the Story by Story event website no later than the event day, October 21. Climbers can also pledge to raise or contribute $150 after the event, by November 6.

Registrants can bring payment with them to the event; please bring payment to the Help Desk before or after checking in at the general Check-in Area. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.

As part of the registration process for all climbers, your credit card information will be securely captured and saved. Your credit card will be charged any remaining balance, if you have not raised or personally contributed $150 by November 6. You will be notified before November 6 about any remaining balance which is owed, before your credit card is charged.

Climbers who cancel their registration by the event day, October 21, will not be charged for any balance owed for the $150 requirement.  Cancellation must be in writing, by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The $50 registration fee, however, is not refundable.

The $150 fundraising minimum also applies to “virtual climbers.” If you do not plan to attend the event, please notify This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by the event day, October 21, to avoid the charge for any balance owed. The $50 registration fee, however, is not refundable.

What should I expect at the event?

To learn more about food and drinks offered at the event, what to wear, hands-free climbing, coat check, climbing etiquette and starting line protocol—read the "What to expect at the event" page under "About Story by Story" on the website.

Can someone register to climb at the event site, on the day of the event?

We request that all climbers register online, in advance of the event. Online registration will end on October 14, 5:00 pm. All climbers must be at least 16-years-old.

Is there coat or baggage check at the event?

Yes, there will be free baggage and coat check services in the lobby. Please arrive early and allow yourself extra time to check your personal items. Climbers must check all bags and other personal possessions, so we recommend that you limit any valuables you bring to the event. For the safety of all participants, climbers will not be allowed to carry anything while climbing stairs. Her Justice is not responsible for lost or stolen items left at the coat/baggage check.

What should I wear at the event?

Please wear walking or running shoes and comfortable, flexible clothing suitable for exercise.

Will there be a Story by Story® t-shirt for participants?

All registered climbers will receive a free t-shirt when they check-in at the event. You may want to wear a light-weight top and add the Story by Story shirt over it—or you can stash your Story by Story shirt in the coat check area. Climbers are not required to wear the Story by Story t-shirt at the event. Team members can wear their own team shirts, if desired.

Can I change my clothing at the building?

There will be some changing areas, but space will be limited. We advise all climbers to arrive already wearing clothing suitable for stair climbing.

Will the event take place in the event of bad weather?

Yes, the event will take place rain, snow or shine.

Are there bathrooms at the event?

Yes, there will be bathrooms in the rest areas of the building.

Will food and drinks be provided?

Yes, water and snacks will be available along the climb route in the rest areas. More refreshments will be available during the finish line party. You may want to eat something light before arriving as well. If you have dietary restrictions or needs, please plan accordingly. If you get a drink or snack at a rest area, you should refrain from climbing until you have finished your refreshments—drinks and snacks are not allowed in the stairwell.

What time should I arrive for the climb on October 21?

In order to reduce wait times for climbers and to relieve congestion in the stairwells, we will assign staggered check-in times, which will range from 5:30 pm–6:45 pm. Detailed information will be posted on the Story by Story website by Friday evening, October 16—check here.  Each climber will receive an assigned check-in time by email on Monday, October 19.

Please arrive early if you plan on making any changes to your climbing route or need to check a coat or bag.

What if I arrive late?

We will do our best to accommodate late climbers, but we cannot guarantee participation for climbers who arrive after their assigned check-in time. If the check-in area is closed when you arrive, please see the Help Desk.

Where does the climb end? On the roof?

All climbers will finish their climb on the 43rd floor, inside the building. Unfortunately, we cannot allow climbers on the roof, for safety reasons

Can I change my climb route when I arrive at the event? 

If you need to change your route or climber category, please contact Her Justice (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 646.442.1364) in advance by Wednesday, October 14, 5:00 pm.

If it is absolutely necessary to make any route or climber category changes upon arrival, please go to the Check-in area first. Please arrive early and give yourself extra time to make any registration changes.

If I am a slow climber, what should I do?

If you will be climbing slowly, please stay on the right side of the stairwell, similar to driving etiquette.

If I am a very fast climber, what should I do?

Please use the left side of the stairwell, to pass slower climbers on the right side, similar to driving etiquette. If you are an elite athlete, please indicate that on your registration. Elite athletes will be among the first group to start climbing.

What if I get tired or don't feel well while climbing?

Climbers can take as many breaks as necessary in the rest areas, which have bathrooms as well. Medical personnel will be located in the rest areas, as well as stationed throughout the building. An elevator will be available to anyone who is not able to continue climbing stairs. Climbers are not required to finish their route, just to do the best they can. If you choose to discontinue your climb for any reason, we do ask that you leave the stairwell and go to a rest area, for your safety and the safety of other climbers.

If I signed up as a virtual climber can I still go to the event?

Yes, please check in between 6:15–7:30 pm with the other climbers. We do ask that you stay out of the stairwell if you are not climbing. You can enjoy the finish line party until 9:00 pm. Like actual climbers, virtual climbers must have raised (or personally donated) $150 in order to attend the event. Can my friends and family (who are NOT registered to participate) come to the finish line party?

Unfortunately we cannot accommodate additional guests who are not registered for the event. Please encourage friends and family to register as climbers or virtual climbers by October 14, 5:00 pm if they wish to attend the event. Virtual climbers are subject to the same fundraising minimum ($150) as actual climbers (see above).

Will photographs be taken at the event?

Yes, Her Justice photographers will be present during registration, the stair climb and the finish line party. Photos will be made available to all participants after the event.

If your team wishes to take photos together, but members are finishing at different times, you should plan to meet at the Finish Line party once you complete your climb.

Please be aware that by consenting to be photographed at Story by Story, you are giving Her Justice permission to use your image on its web site and print pieces and to share your image with media outlets. If you do not wish to be photographed, please alert the Her Justice photographers during the event.
